Restaurant Build-Out Contractor in New Jersey

Bars, restaurants and food-service spaces in Jersey City, Hoboken and across Hudson County, built to the approved plans and ready for inspection.

A restaurant is one of the more involved commercial build-outs. Water, drains, gas, power, ventilation and fire protection all meet in a small footprint, and the space has to pass building, fire and health review before it can serve anyone. Hoboken GC LLC handles the general construction, with one crew for framing, plumbing, electric, HVAC and finishes.

Recent work: a wine bar and restaurant in Jersey City

In 2026 our crew worked on a wine bar and restaurant in Jersey City, building to the engineering drawings prepared for the project. If you are planning a bar, café or restaurant, we can walk you through how a job like that runs.

What a restaurant build-out usually involves

  • Plumbing: sinks, floor drains and equipment connections laid out on the plumbing plans, plus any grease interceptor the plans and the local sewer authority call for.
  • Kitchen ventilation and HVAC: hood and exhaust work and make-up air as designed, coordinated with the hood and equipment suppliers, plus heating and cooling for the dining room.
  • Electrical: service capacity for cooking and refrigeration equipment, dedicated circuits, lighting, and exit and emergency lighting.
  • Restrooms and accessibility: customer restrooms, an accessible route through the entrance and dining area, and counters and fixtures at the heights the approved plans show.
  • Finishes that clean easily: kitchen walls, floors and ceilings with surfaces the health department expects in food prep areas, and durable finishes out front.

Permits, fire and health inspections

Most towns start with zoning: is a restaurant or bar a permitted use at this address? If the space was something else before, a change of use and a new Certificate of Occupancy usually apply. After that come construction permits for building, plumbing, electric, mechanical and fire protection, built from sealed plans by the licensed design professionals the project requires. Expect rough and final inspections in each trade, fire review of the hood suppression, alarms and exits, and a health department review of the food areas before you open. A liquor license is a separate process handled by the owner.

Working around neighbors and landlords

Many Hudson County restaurants sit on the ground floor of mixed-use buildings. We plan noisy work and utility shut-offs with the landlord or building manager, keep shared halls clear, and control dust so upstairs tenants and next-door businesses can keep going.

Frequently asked questions

Do you build restaurants from a bare shell?

Yes. We take on raw shells and second-generation spaces, building to the approved plans with one crew for framing, plumbing, electric, HVAC and finishes.

Do you design the restaurant?

No. The plans come from the licensed design professionals the project requires. We build to those plans, help assemble permit paperwork, and meet the inspectors.

Who handles the health department and fire inspections?

We build to what the approved plans and inspectors require and attend the construction inspections. Health department approvals and business licenses are in the owner's name, and we help make sure the space is ready for them.

Can you work while the rest of the building is occupied?

Yes. We coordinate shut-offs and noisy work with building management and keep shared areas clean and clear.

How much does a restaurant build-out cost?

Every space is different, so we do not guess. We walk the space and review the plans, then give you a free itemized written estimate.
